George and Bella (Smith) Alderson moved from Springhill to Sydney Mines a few years after the Springhill mining explosion to start a new life in this town. They had James, Bessie, Ellen B, George, Margaret, Bella, William, Alouda, Christina and John. George and some of his sons worked in the coal mines.

John married Mary M. Marsh and are buried in Brookside Cemetery
